Trauma Recovery · Root Cause

You weren't built for normal.
Stop trying.

PTSD was the diagnosis. Pattern repetition was the real problem.
I spent years in the Philippines, India, Tibet, and China — not studying trauma from a textbook, but staying in it until I understood what I was actually doing. Now I help veterans, founders, and high performers do the same: stop managing symptoms and start working with the root.

"Just move on" is the worst advice ever given.

The wellness industry sells coping mechanisms. Therapy sells management. Nobody sells the truth: the only way out is through. And the only person who can walk you through it is someone who's been there.

01

You're not broken. You're adapted.

Your nervous system learned vigilance as survival. It doesn't matter that you're safe now — your body doesn't know that. It's still scanning. This isn't pathology. It's a pattern. And patterns can be rewritten.

02

Talk therapy isn't enough.

Trauma lives in the body — in muscle patterns, in the breath, in the nervous system. You can't think your way out of a body-based problem. If you could, you'd have fixed it by now.

03

You can't outrun yourself.

I ran from Japan to the Philippines to the Himalayas. Every greener pasture turned into the same field with a different view. No matter how far you run, you always return to yourself. There is no escape from that.

From the 9mm to 85 feet down.

"I unholstered my 9mm pistol. The cold steel felt familiar. With the barrel pointed at my temple, I saluted myself — a final, ironic gesture of defiance against a life that had become unbearable."

That was rock bottom. Not a metaphor. A storage room on a ship in Norfolk, Virginia, with a loaded weapon and a uniform that didn't feel like mine.

That was the invitation. Not to die — to change course. To dismantle the old, broken structures and rebuild anew.

Years later, I was 85 feet underwater on a single breath, listening to the sounds of the deep — the heartbeat I'd been trying to drown out since I was six, finally too far underwater for any voice to reach. That's where I found what I was looking for. Not peace. Not healing. Capacity. The ability to feel the thing I'd been running from and survive it.
